“I use the canvas to build bridges over a gap where words fail, reaching for a clarity that only exists beyond the boundaries of speech.

The verbal language carries a margin of error - a vast divide between what is felt and what can be said.”

The Process

It is difficult to define exactly when a process begins, as there is rarely a true beginning or end. Instead, two distinct phases typically catapult a work into life. One is a phase of playful exploration, where I sift through the vast landscape of visual culture, searching for images and fragments that resonate. The other is a phase of introspective investigation, where I—often in the dark—navigate the internal landscape of my mind, looking for the geometric compositions that appear and call to be externalized. These two phases often move in parallel; external images reflect my internal imagery, while my mind’s eye provides the cues for what to seek out in the world around me.

Once a motif is found, the energy shifts. The next phase is one of meticulous calculation and strict focus, balanced by a tender presence that allows me to feel when a composition is exactly right. As I begin to apply the paint, I move toward an even more intuitive way of working, yet I remain controlled in my adherence to the motif. This stage is almost like a meditation, where looking and focusing become the core forces. It is through this devotion of time and energy that the work transcends the purely visual and gains its singular quality as a painting and a work of art, through which the artist’s subjectivity is transmitted as a nonverbal voice longing to be heard.

The Circle

I return to the circle as a persistent visual anchor, finding a unique authority and power in its form. As a geometric shape, it possesses a visual gravity that I enjoy emphasizing through the central motifs of my paintings. I find a particular joy in combining the playfulness of everyday circular objects—a ball, a swim ring, a hole—with a minimal and austere way of working. This creates images that are magnetic, almost hypnotic, yet remain cheerful and down to earth. My work is a search for the monumental within the mundane; an attempt to capture something larger than life, manifested through the humble vessels of our everyday world.

The Studio

I work from my studio at Skabelonloftet in Copenhagen - a creative community housed in the historic draughting halls of the old B&W shipyard.

I welcome studio visits by appointment for those who wish to experience the paintings and the process in person.
